September Surrender: Day Fifteen

It never occurred to me that I could simply alter clothes that don’t fit me right. Sure, there’s some items I get that do nothing for me, but there’s other things I like that could handle some tweaking here and there. When I actually figured it out, I went on a bit of an alteration spree, including several pairs of pants, some dresses, and blazers. They were mine now, why would I have any qualms about fixing things the way I see fit? I say this because my boyfriend got me a beautiful, custom-made, hand-blown glass pendant for our six month anniversary. He has one too by the same artist, just “the man version” of it. I love it. It’s so thoughtful and beautiful. And he said I could switch the chain if I choose to. It’s a simple ball chain that he cut himself to a length he thought would be good for me. Changing it is low on the list of priorities right now because it’s about the centerpiece versus what it’s hanging from. If I want to change it, I will, as I’m past that stage of thinking I’m dishonoring my items by finding a way to upgrade them. There’s nothing stopping me, other than perhaps the expenditure of alterations. But I’m not worried about that either. We can make a change if need be to strive for fit and comfort. Why not make things better if they can be extended upon? Seems like a no-brainer in retrospect, but then again a shift in thinking may take more than an overnight to solve. Right now, the only thing that needs a change is my sleep cycle, as it gives me very little time to write these entries. Oh well. Adjustments take time. Switching out my chain does not.
