September Surrender: Day Seventeen
A legal weed shop opened up pretty much across the street from me. It’s a good spot that’s expanding all the time, with a ton of interesting strains and items. But they don’t yet carry my and my boyfriend’s favorite brand. Every time he comes into the city we make a stop over there and one shop downtown that does sell it, grabbing what we like and what we hope to try. New York has a very simple process where you show your ID and hop in, with every product on display in glass kiosks. You can order ahead or just peruse at your leisure. I’m very happy to support small businesses and am a huge proponent of legalizing it. But for now I need to settle down when I go for the smoke test and get the most benefit out of what it is I puff.
Whenever I go to buy, I always want to try the newest offering. I’m more of an indica girl, but I pick up sativas here and there. My boyfriend and I share what we get by rolling each other up some joints and labeling the filter with the strain. It’s so far a good system and I’ve found some items that I really like. But others are falling by the wayside. I have something like nine eighths of weed and more than half of them I don’t even feel like smoking. I’m running low on my favorite kinds and I don’t get paid until next week. I’m not complaining as I’m a good little stoner and will smoke ’em if I got ’em, but I can’t help but feel like I’m just vaporizing my money on a subpar high.
The last time my boyfriend and I were in Lambertville, New Jersey, we stopped by a dispensary aptly named Baked by the River. He saw on the website they had a strain he hadn’t seen in years. So he bought a bunch of it. Really stocked up. And now he’s got plenty of extras for a rainy day. While we both like variety, I’m not in the same boat. It’s like I’m blowing through all the strains I don’t like in order to save the ones I do. But then it’s not as enjoyable because I just want to smoke my favorites. It’s the dumbest conundrum I’ve ever faced and solidifies my status as just another burnout.
But it’s fine. I suppose I don’t need to keep trying the new when I’m certain about what I like. I plan to stock up instead of rely on variety just because I like the packaging. The legal weed world is forever expanding and can lead to some truly beneficial experiences. I’ll put my red-eyed efforts into what makes me happiest, and not just because I’ve had a toke.
And in case you’re curious, I cannot recommend Electraleaf’s Bubble Gum Gelato and Coco Pina enough. Tell ’em I sent you.
