My news judgment was called into question the other day. I didn’t appreciate the manner in which it was told to me. It was framed as though I lacked the “common sense” to know what visual to show for a tease. We had a famous person’s wife on, so I showed the famous person. Apparently I was supposed to show them together. It was “unacceptable” what I did. But no one was aware that just that same morning, I told a Production Assistant to get me some border video for a separate tease. He asked if I wanted to see migrant crossings, but I said no. Just the wall. Because the story wasn’t about migrants. He agreed and got me the proper video. So yes, I have news judgment. It’s just one of those things where you can do a million things right, but everyone remembers the one thing wrong.
Do I have common sense? Not always. One time I got pulled over for speeding with a high guy next to me and a veritable shitton of weed underneath the seat. I will not elaborate further. I’m just lucky I’m cute because I sweettalked the cop into letting me off with just a warning. I knew I was speeding. Yes officer, I promise to slow down. And then off I went. Scared the absolute shit out of me, and it was a total lack of common sense for me to make that trip to begin with. I’ve wised up since being a stupid twenty-one-year-old rebel, though a lot of those qualities still live within me.
When you live in a land that currently has absolutely no sense at the helm, it’s surprising when you see some of it actually rear its head. Sure, a lot of the decisions that lead up to it are nonsensical and weird, but I guess we have to break a few “unacceptable” eggs before we get a decent-looking omelet. Sometimes it bothers me that I can’t always get it right on the first go-round, but now I’m not so sure anybody can. It’s like we have to slog through these trials that could potentially hurt us before we land on the most practical course of action.
It’s really starting to feel like we’re at a turning point where we’re just not tolerating this crap anymore. Direct decisions are being made that feel just as practical as any would be, even if they come from the most impractical of sources. A good idea has no party, it simply exists as it is. I don’t really know what it’s going to take to get most people to see the light on that. Maybe it’s as simple as reaching out and hitting the switch. We’ve been sitting in the dark for so long with people physically holding you down so you can’t even make a try for it. I’m hoping that’s all about to change. Sure, they’ll still be the extreme outliers, but it’ll be impossible for them to act like they’re the majority. We’ve seen enough to know what not to do by now, haven’t we? How much more foolishness are you going to endure before common sense actually prevails?
